Agent Commerce
Visa TAP
Visa's framework for establishing agent identity to a merchant, launched October 2025 in collaboration with Cloudflare. It attaches a cryptographic proof of identity to an agent-initiated transaction using signed HTTP messages carrying the agent's intent, verified user identity and payment credentials, so a merchant can distinguish an approved shopping assistant from a scraper or card-testing bot.
Why it matters
It answers the question every other protocol assumes away: how a merchant knows the agent is who it claims to be. Without agent identity, bot mitigation and agent commerce are in direct conflict.
In practice
Implemented at the edge rather than in your storefront, typically via your CDN or processor. The operator question is whether your bot-blocking currently rejects legitimate shopping agents.
