Data Clean Room

A secure environment where two or more parties (typically a brand and an ad platform or publisher) can match and analyze their combined datasets without either party seeing the other's raw data. Used for audience matching, measurement, and attribution in a privacy-safe way. Meta's Advanced Analytics, Google's Ads Data Hub, and Amazon Marketing Cloud are major clean room environments. Increasingly important as user-level tracking becomes restricted.

Why it matters

It allows matching against a platform's data without either side exposing raw records, which is increasingly the only way to measure overlap at all.

In practice

Worth it at scale, overhead below it. If you cannot articulate the specific question the clean room answers, you are not ready for one.
